Terra & Tones

The studio

Terra & Tones is an interior design studio in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, Gujarat. We design interiors from the ground up: the stone and timber first, then the light that falls on them.

Two letters, a stem and a leaf

The mark is two capital Ts, one for each word in the name. The second hangs from a curved stem, and the stem ends in a single leaf.

Veneer is cut in leaves, and the rooms on this site are kept the same way: numbered, in sequence, one after another. The leaf is the unit of the whole studio.

What we design

  1. Living room, Gulmohar House. Floor-to-ceiling glass onto the gulmohar canopy, a low sofa with a leather chaise, and an arched niche screened by a jaali. Whole homes From the front door to the balcony, planned as one sequence so the materials run on from room to room.
  2. Kitchen, Gulmohar House. Deep blue base units, a gold-veined marble backsplash, and open oak niches lit from above. Kitchens and bars Handle-less runs, larders, lit niches and bar walls, drawn to fit the wall they stand against.
  3. Bedroom, Gulmohar House. A headboard wall of padded arches lit from behind, framed in oak, beside a capsule mirror. Bedrooms and wardrobes Headboard walls, wardrobes with lit glass bays, window seats and the desk in the corner.
  4. Entry console, Gulmohar House. A round backlit mirror on fluted oak, over a floating console with a black marble top. Light in the joinery Cove lines, backlit panels and cabinets lit from inside, built in with the woodwork instead of added after.
  5. Study, The Waterfall Desk. An L-shaped desk whose grey top rolls over into a curved leg at the window end. Studies and desks Work corners made to measure, like the Waterfall Desk and its lift-up cable trough.
